Products - LCD Backlight
- Orient Display can provide
custom made LCD backlights including Light guide, Bottom lit
(array) LED backlights, Side lit LED backlights, and CCFL backlights.
All of the LCD backlights can work with plastic molding technology
to provide the housing and frame to increase light and space
efficiency. Please contact

- Light guide
¨C we can provide just the light guide which you can then incorporate
with LED lamps on a Print Circuit Board (PCB). We have two kinds
of light guides:
- High light efficiency and uniformity
reflection mesh design for medium to high end products.
- Screen printed light provides the
most cost effective light guide solution.
In order to get the best
performance, most light guides are combined with a diffuser
and reflector on the top and bottom of the light guides.
- Bottom Lit (Array) LED Backlights
¨C provide the most uniformity in LCD backlights and
do not require extra light guide area. However, they are thick
and require more power to drive. Thus, most of the Bottom lit
LED backlights use low cost and low brightness LED lamps, such
as yellow-green, red, pure green, amber, orange, or any of the
above colors combined together. Most Bottom lit LED backlights
use traditional COB LCD modules.
- Side Lit LED Backlights
¨C are the most cost effective LCD backlight. They work with
all the LED colors: yellow-green, red, pure green, amber, orange,
blue, white, RGB, or any of the above colors combined together,
but are still space efficient and compact with low power consumption.
As technology continues to progress, high brightness LED lamps
can be used to provide high brightness side lit LCD backlights.
Plastic molding technology can be used to produce housing, mounting,
and snap in type of LCD modules. Improving its uniformity and
eliminating hot spots without increasing the light guiding area
significantly are continuously being worked on. Orient Display
has a special mesh design technology, and we are working with
other partners of patented micro lens and optical fiber technologies
to meet the various uniformity requirements for LCD backlights.
Side lit LED backlights are now the most popular LCD backlights
and are continuing to grow in popularity. Most of the small
to medium size LCDs are using this type of LCD backlight, including
most COG and TAB modules, and are extensively used in cell phones,
MP3s, MP4s, GPS, and a variety of other handheld devices.
- CCFL Backlights ¨C provides
a very bright and uniform LCD backlight, extensively used for
5.7¡± or larger LCD backlights, which includes, laptops, monitors,
LCD TVs, etc. Disadvantages of CCFL backlights are that they
require a high voltage and high frequency drive. In order to
convert DC to AC, an expensive CCFL backlight inverter must
be used which can also cause EMI interference. Shielding must
also be designed.
